Fortunately, this is usually not the case. Two Different Procedures Eye color change surgery works on the cornea, the clear front surface of the eye. Cataract surgery treats the natural lens inside the eye. Since these procedures involve different structures, cataract surgery can generally be performed normally in the future. What Happens If I Develop Cataracts Later? If cataracts develop years after keratopigmentation, your surgeon can usually proceed with cataract surgery using standard techniques. In most cases, patients can still choose from modern lens technologies, including premium lenses designed to reduce dependence on glasses. Why Is Follow-Up Important? Many patients who are interested in eye color change surgery also have refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, or age-related reading vision problems. A common question is: “Will I still be able to have vision correction surgery after keratopigmentation?” In most cases, yes. Eye Color Change Surgery and Refractive Surgery Keratopigmentation is performed within the cornea to change the appearance of the eye. When properly planned, it does not prevent future vision correction procedures.
