Retinal detachment is\u00a0 an emergency situation in which the retina at the back of the eye is detached from its normal position. As retinal detachment cannot heal itself patients need to be operated as soon as possible. The longer retinal detachment goes untreated, the greater your risk of permanent vision loss in the affected eye.<\/p>

Retinal detachment itself is painless. But warning signs almost always appear before it occurs or has advanced, such as:<\/p>

  • The sudden appearance of many floaters\u00a0<\/li>
  • Flashes of light in one or both eyes (photopsia)<\/li>
  • Blurred vision<\/li>
  • Reduced side\u00a0 vision<\/li>

    Diagnosis:<\/strong><\/p>

    Retinal detachment is diagnosed by the eye doctor who uses an ophthalmoscope to look in the back of the eye. Sometime retinal detachment is hidden by blood in the vitreus cavity then ultrasound examination aids the diagnosis.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
